Responsible actor. The person responsible for giving the required ordinary summary judgment hearing notice.
The actual date fixed for the summary judgment hearing
A rule or practice direction can prescribe a different period under rule 24.4(6).
Confirm the ordinary fourteen-day hearing-notice branch, a notice stating the date and issues, and ordinary business-day effective service. The selected input is the hearing date, not service of an application. Event and result must be within 2026–2027.
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26How does this provision count time?
- Exclude the hearing day and notice-service boundary. Count fourteen intervening calendar days backwards and move any invalid ordinary service boundary earlier to a business day.
- The notice must identify both the hearing date and issues proposed for decision.

Questions about this procedure
When must summary judgment hearing notice take effect?
Does the ordinary notice concern only the hearing date?
No. Rule 24.4(5) also requires notice of the issues the court will decide.
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26Does the calculator count forward from application service?
No. The qualified ordinary notice model starts with the actual hearing and finds latest effective service before it.
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26Can a different rule prescribe a different notice period?
Yes. Rule 24.4(6) preserves a different period prescribed by a rule or practice direction.
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26Does a Sunday raw boundary permit Monday notice?
Not in the ordinary minimum-notice model. Effective service must move earlier to preserve the interval.
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26Is the property-contract application-service period the same rule?
No. Rule 24.5(2) identifies a special application-service branch for claims under 24.4(3).
CPR 24.4(5)–(6) and 6.26Must I separately check evidence dates?
Yes. Respondent evidence and applicant reply evidence have their own file-and-serve requirements under 24.5.
