The request alone does not renew the instrument. An application before current expiry gives the day-after-expiry start in paragraph (5); an application after expiry uses a later day the court allows under paragraph (6). This remains a source guide. A date cannot be inferred without the actual grant and its operative start. Rule 83.3(7)–(8) also requires the relevant sealing, notice or endorsement before execution.

CPR 83.3(4)–(8)How does this provision count time?
- Preserve the existing expiry, application date and actual grant. Do not add twelve months automatically to an application date or treat a late request as uninterrupted validity.
- Court closure does not itself prove a renewal was granted or bridge a gap in validity. Any application-filing carry is separate from the actual order’s effect.

This remains a source guide. A date cannot be inferred without the actual grant and its operative start. Rule 83.3(7)–(8) also requires the relevant sealing, notice or endorsement before execution. The initial validity period starts with issue. Renewal requires an actual court grant and can use a different start, so the current expiry alone cannot establish every renewed validity period. Questions about this procedure
How is an extension of non-TCG writ validity established?
Does applying to extend a writ automatically renew it?
No. Rule 83.3(4) gives the court a power to extend. The application is distinct from the actual court grant.
CPR 83.3(4)When does an extension start after a timely application?
If the application precedes expiry, paragraph (5) starts the extension on the day after the existing twelve-month period expires.
CPR 83.3(5)Does a late extension necessarily fill the expired period?
No. Paragraph (6) allows the court to choose a day after expiry. Preserve that actual allowed start rather than assuming uninterrupted validity.
CPR 83.3(6)Is there a single twelve-month lifetime cap on non-TCG renewal?
Rule 83.3(4) permits extensions from time to time, for twelve months at any one time. That differs from the one-occasion TCG extension rule.
CPR 83.3(4); TCG Regulations 2013, reg 9(4)(b)Must the officer receive evidence of an extended writ before execution?
Paragraph (7) requires the prescribed sealing or sealed notice to the relevant enforcement officer before the extended writ is executed.
CPR 83.3(7)How is an extended warrant recorded?
Paragraph (8) requires the warrant to be endorsed with a note of the renewal. Do not treat an unverified requested renewal as the operative instrument.
