When is an ordinary Illinois record on appeal due in the reviewing court?

Outside Rule 326’s specified special appeals, the record ordinarily must be filed in the reviewing court within sixty-three days after notice filing, using the last notice if more than one appeal is taken. If report-filing time was extended, the rule instead uses fourteen days after that extended time expires. This calculator covers the established ordinary branch without an extended report period.

How is this Illinois appellate period counted?

  1. Establish the appeal’s classification and whether Rule 326’s ordinary branch applies.
  2. Exclude the independently established triggering day and count intermediate calendar days under 5 ILCS 70/1.11. A filing, entry, effective service or previously established due date must come from its actual record. Do not substitute one event for another.
  3. Check statutory holidays and the proper court’s actual calendar.
  4. Complete the particular act in the proper court.

Section 1.11 excludes a final Saturday, Sunday or statutory holiday and consecutive excluded days. Section 17(a) of the Promissory Note and Bank Holiday Act includes Pulaski Day, Good Friday and the general election for members of the House of Representatives. Check proclamations, the proper court’s actual calendar and clerk access separately. The bundled Illinois calendar covers 2026 and 2027.

Which qualifications and court directions matter?

Special appeals have different record procedures
Rule 326 excepts Rules 306, 307, 308 and 335. Rule 311(a)(4) separately sets the accelerated minor-related record and transcript procedure. Establish the actual applicable appeal before using the ordinary record period.
An extended report period supplies another event
If report-filing time has been extended, Rule 326 uses fourteen days after expiration of the extended time. Do not add sixty-three days to a notice for that branch.
Multiple appeals use the last actual notice
Rule 326 expressly uses the last notice of appeal when more than one appeal is taken. Establish all notices before selecting the event.
Extension requests have their own timing and proof
Rule 326 permits motions before original or extended expiry or within thirty-five days thereafter with reasonable excuse for not filing the motion earlier. Serve the preparing clerk. A request is not a granted extension.

  • Check the governing edition and actual orders. A current rule does not establish every historical appeal’s timetable.
