What starts this Illinois civil period?
Obtain the actual arbitration hearing notice and any rescheduling order.
Identify eligible documents and prepare copies and the required summary cover sheet.
Establish effective written notice to every other party by the advance-notice boundary.
Illinois Supreme Court Rule 90(c)How is this Illinois civil period counted?
- Obtain the actual arbitration hearing notice and any rescheduling order.
- Count thirty calendar days backward from the independently established arbitration hearing date. This is minimum advance notice to every other party. Establish effective delivery by that boundary. The preset preserves its nominal date and requires separate closed-day review; it does not move the boundary forward to shorten notice.
- Check statutory holidays and the proper court’s actual calendar.
- Give every other party written notice with document copies in time to satisfy the minimum period. Include the summary cover sheet listing each item, categorized damages and whether each bill is paid or unpaid. Number package pages consecutively. Preserve delivery proof. A clerk filing alone does not establish all-party notice.
A minimum notice period counted backward needs the actual hearing calendar and timely effective notice. Section 1.11 does not supply this preset with an automatic backward landing-day adjustment. Preserve the nominal boundary and review a weekend, statutory holiday, special order or local closure separately. Do not move a minimum notice date forward and shorten the required notice.

Fictitious example
Fictitious facts. The court-set hearing and eligible document procedure are established. Effective all-party notice must satisfy the displayed minimum boundary. The established event is August 5, 2027. No additional local closure or different court direction is assumed.
| Step | What is counted | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Established event | Established arbitration hearing date | August 5, 2027 |
| Applicable period | At least 30 calendar days of advance written notice | July 6, 2027 |
Fictitious facts. Establish effective notice to every other party by the minimum notice boundary. This preset preserves the nominal date and does not automatically adjust a closed landing day. Review service, local closures and actual orders separately.
Try these dates in the calculatorWhich qualifications and court directions matter?
- Only the specified document classes qualify
- Rule 90(c) identifies health-care documents, drug and appliance bills, itemized property repair documents, employer earnings reports, specified witness statements and other otherwise admissible documents. The date does not establish document eligibility or evidentiary weight.
- The package needs meaningful itemization
- The cover sheet lists each included item, money damages by the stated categories and paid or unpaid bills. Package pages should run consecutively from first to last in addition to individual-document page numbers.
- Effective service determines the event
- Use Rule 11’s applicable service method and file Rule 12 proof. Rule 12(c) makes electronic or personal delivery service effective on its stated day, mail service complete four days after mailing, and third-party carrier service complete on the third court day after delivery to the carrier. Establish effective service before using a service-triggered calculator. A rule requiring personal or email service cannot be replaced with ordinary mail.
- Expert opinions have an additional notice requirement
- Rule 90(d) separately requires expert identity, qualifications, subject, basis, opinion and the information required by Rule 222(d)(6). Timely document copies do not by themselves establish that disclosure.
- The calculator does not decide the applicable civil procedure, disputed facts, sufficiency of a filing or whether the court grants relief.
- Check the governing edition and actual orders. A current rule does not establish every historical case’s timetable.
