Official current New York Senate statutory text and revision metadata were accessed through web extraction October 8, 2026. Previously retained October 7 statutory originals remain immutable. Direct HTTP reacquisition attempts failed; the new retained web extracts are identified as extracted text, not original HTML. The current official Part 202 page and relevant pinpoints were separately extracted. Revision labels identify the website’s version, not an inferred effective date. GML 50-i and CPLR 208-a show February 20, 2026 revisions. No actual service, order, local calendar or party-specific applicability is established.

When must disclosure be completed in a standard or complex New York case?

Responsible actor. The parties completing disclosure under the applicable scheduling order.

Identify the court, part and applicable rule set. Commercial Division and differentiated-case-management provisions require their own applicability checks.

Preserve the RJI filing and actual standard or complex designation.

Read the actual so-ordered stipulation or scheduling order and every later modification.

Distinguish the completion schedule from individual disclosure-response dates, note-of-issue requirements and compliance conferences.

How does this provision count time?

  1. Identify the actor, required act and governing procedural branch.
  2. Establish the operative event, actual service route, completion and every controlling order.
  3. Apply only the provision’s stated calendar model or minimum interval, with all necessary comparisons.
  4. Check eligibility, local requirements, completed service or filing and any separate controlling period.

General Construction Law 20 ordinarily excludes the event day and counts calendar days. Establish the legal service-completion event before counting a completion-based period. CPLR 2103 additions require their stated service and procedural conditions; do not transfer pending-action paper additions automatically to original summons service. This guide publishes explanatory scenarios only.

Check General Construction Law 25-a and the actual applicable court, public holidays, orders and procedural branch. A closed-day rule for a forward act must not be used mechanically to shorten a minimum notice interval before a hearing. This guide supplies no automatic carry or inferred hearing date.

Which facts prevent one automatic date?

This source guide requires the applicable court rules, case track and actual disclosure order. It publishes no automatic date or paid calculation. An RJI date alone cannot establish every controlling disclosure obligation.

ResultRead the operative provision and establish the applicable branch.

Assume a standard case within the applicable Part 202 branch and an RJI filed July 6, 2026. The nominal twelve-calendar-month reference is July 6, 2027. The actual so-ordered stipulation or scheduling order and subsequent directions determine the case’s obligations. The nominal reference is not a self-executing paid disclosure deadline.

Assume the same RJI date but an applicable complex-case designation. The nominal fifteen-month reference is October 6, 2027. Standard and complex are branches of the same disclosure-completion procedure. Read the actual designation and order. One grouped guide explains both branches.

Assume the court actually orders disclosure completion by June 1, 2027. Part 202.12(e)(2) permits a shorter or longer court-directed schedule under its conditions. The generic twelve-month reference does not override that order. Preserve and follow the actual scheduling direction and any later modification.

Assume an applicable standard-case RJI reference dated September 25, 2026. The nominal twelve-month anniversary is Saturday, September 25, 2027. The actual order and applicable procedural calendar require review. This guide does not turn an administrative reference into an automatically rolled court deadline.

Which conditions and exceptions apply?

Actual scheduling framework
Part 202.12(b), (e)(2) and (g) address stipulated and court-issued schedules and possible shorter or longer directions.
Differentiated case management
Part 202.19 applies to designated categories and courts or parts. Its track framework must not be assumed universally applicable.
Commercial Division scope
The official Part 202 compilation identifies Commercial Division provisions that supersede specified preliminary-conference rules. Verify the actual part and governing schedule.

  • This source guide requires the applicable court rules, case track and actual disclosure order. It publishes no automatic date or paid calculation. An RJI date alone cannot establish every controlling disclosure obligation.
  • Standard and complex are conditional schedules for the same disclosure-completion act. The grouped review preserves both conditions and gives priority to the actual governing order.

Questions about this procedure

When must disclosure be completed in a standard or complex New York case?

Is a standard case reference twelve months from RJI filing?

Part 202.12(b) and (g) use that reference in their scheduling framework. Read the actual applicable order and any shorter or longer direction.

22 NYCRR 202.12(b), (e)(2), (g), 202.19 and applicable Commercial Division provisions

What changes for an applicable complex case?

The same provisions use a fifteen-month reference for complex cases. Establish the actual designation instead of selecting whichever period is longer.

22 NYCRR 202.12(b), (e)(2), (g), 202.19 and applicable Commercial Division provisions

Does the RJI date alone establish the final disclosure deadline?

No. Read the applicable rule, actual so-ordered stipulation or scheduling order and later modifications. The framework includes court-directed changes.

22 NYCRR 202.12(b), (e)(2), (g), 202.19 and applicable Commercial Division provisions

Do these rules automatically govern every Commercial Division case?

Do not assume so. The compilation states that specified Commercial Division rules supersede preliminary-conference provisions. Verify actual part and rule applicability.

22 NYCRR 202.12(b), (e)(2), (g), 202.19 and applicable Commercial Division provisions

Is the disclosure-completion reference the same as an interrogatory response deadline?

No. Individual disclosure requests have separate events and obligations. A case-wide schedule does not automatically replace each request’s response requirement.

22 NYCRR 202.12(b), (e)(2), (g), 202.19 and applicable Commercial Division provisions

Can I automatically move a nominal Saturday anniversary to Monday?

This guide supplies no automatic rollover. Establish the actual ordered act, applicable law and court calendar before determining a binding date.
